Knife crime has increased drastically in the Uk.
There are approximately 40 stabbings a day in the UK.
A journalist at Sky News interviewed a gang in North London to find out why they carry knifes.
Every one of the gang members have been caring a knife since the age of 10 and 11.
The leader stated that ‘anyone who stabs their gang member, their family lives are in danger.’
He went on to say that if he could sit down with Theresa May to discuss the reasons why he’s in a gang, he would tell her that he didn’t choose this life, this life chose him.
The government and councils have been looking for ways to tackle the knife crime epidemic that has taken over the Uk.
The Home sectary Sajid Javis has launched some new measures, which could help tackle knife crime in London.
Mr Javis wants to increase the power of the police force by introducing knife crime prevention orders.
These knife crime prevention orders can be imposed on anyone who is over the age of 12.
If they are suspected of caring knifes, police can put them under a curfew and track their every move along with their access to social media.
The mother of actor Robert Knox who was stabbed to death in 2018, disagrees with Mr Javi’s new measures to tackle knife crime.
She believes that they will not stop young people from carrying knifes.
She states “I do not think this will work, I cannot think how these will be implemented and carried out.”
A parent can’t control their young child when it comes to their social media activities.
Investment in their communities and their future is what they need, they don’t think that increasing police power will help tackle youth violence.
